A clear complexion with glowing skin is everyone’s goal. Many products have been created to exfoliate dead skin and reveal fresh unblemished skin. Unfortunately, research has emerged that suggests these products are actually harming your skin instead of helping it. Here are 3 natural scrub recipes that are healthy for your skin AND cheaper than most commercial products.
Simple Sugar Scrub
This recipe is so simple that you can whip it up in about two minutes and probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen. You will need:
- 4 oz. (half a cup) Olive Oil (go for extra virgin, cold processed if possible.)
- 1 tsp. honey
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
Blend the honey and olive oil together in a bowl. Then add this mix to a bowl with the sugar in it. Start slowly, mixing it together until you get the “paste” consistency you’d like. Use this like any regular scrub before or during a shower.
Sweet Cornmeal Scrub
This is one of those natural sugar scrub recipes that can be made and given as a gift or even sold for profit. It requires a few more ingredients, but will make you feel so spoiled. You will need:
- 2 oz Sweet Almond oil
- ¼ cup cornmeal
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 5 – 10 drops of your favorite essential oil. (Some favorites include rose hip, lavender, and lemongrass.)
- Olive oil to desired texture.
For this recipe, mix the almond and essential oils together and set aside in a small bowl. Then mix the dry ingredients together in a different bowl. Slowly add the olive oil until it is slightly drier than your desired consistency, and then add in the almond oil mix.
Morning Perk Scrub
Some natural scrub recipes are just so amazing that you want to use them right away! This one will give you glowing skin and perk you up in the morning! You will need:
- 4 oz. Shea butter
- ½ – 1 cup coffee grounds
- 5 – 10 drops of vanilla oil
Whip the Shea butter using an electric hand mixer. Once the butter is a creamy, almost-fluffy texture, begin adding the coffee grounds slowly as you continue to mix on a medium speed. Mix until you have the desired texture for your scrub. Finally, add the vanilla for that yummy latte scent!
Each of these natural scrub recipes is fun and easy to make, and can save you a ton of money on those commercial “spa quality” products! Try getting friends involved and/or making them as gifts.
