You: Staying YoungYou: Staying Young is the latest book in the You series by doctors Roizen and Oz. I love the tag line to this book, The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty. That about sums up the whole book. The doctors go into detail about the 14 different aging processes and what you can do to slow them down. If you are interested in antiaging, then this one is for you.

You: Staying Young gives helpful advice regarding diet and exercise for readers of all ages. The goal is to slowing the aging process and reducing the risk of age-related illnesses like chronic pain and senility. It’s formulated into a 14-day self-improvement plan to improve your overall quality of life.


You: Staying Young
The book describes the body’s aging process and how foods, supplements, and exercise can slow it down. If you’re into health and read a lot on this subject, this book may seem a bit rudimentary. However, if you’re just learning or only want a primer that’s not too deep in medical terminology, it breaks things down into a 14-day self-improvement plan by giving you quizzes, shopping lists, and action steps that will prepare your mind and body to make lasting changes.

One suggestion from the book is to ask three strangers–for example a waiter–to guess your age. How old you’re perceived to be is an indicator of how healthy you are. (There’s a free test at realage.com).

You Staying Young will be coming to television shortly so look for it on your local PBS station.

There is a school of thought that says aging is actually something our own bodies create, a side effect of the inflammatory system that protects us against infectious disease. As we fight off disease, we inflict massive collateral damage on ourselves, poisoning our own organs and breaking down our own tissues. Essentially, we’re our own worst enemy.
The Inflammation Free Diet Plan

In Monica Reinagel’s, The Inflammation Free Diet Plan, foods are given an IF rating—they either promote or prevent inflammation. The book shows how eating an anti-inflammatory diet can help you lose weight, slow aging, and prevent disease.

It isn’t a new idea. Inflammation has been suspected of being the root of disease since the 19th century. Only in the past few years, have modern biochemistry and the emerging field of systems biology made it possible to grasp the chemical interactions involved in inflammation.
It’s believed that one way to cope is by eating foods that discourage inflammation.

You need not give up foods that are negatively rated, but rather eat a wide variety of foods that that fight inflammation—thereby fighting the aging process. The book has an accompanying web site that explains the IF rating system and goes into more detail about foods and recipes.

    These books both sound very interesting. I’m interested in anything that will make aging easier. I plan on living to at least 100, and I also plan to do it in good health! I’ll be checking these books out! Thanks!
