If you’re wondering, what is micellar water you’re not alone. Its appearance in local drugstores has got many people wondering about it. Here’s what I’ve been able to find out.
Micellar water is a French import. Apparently Parisian water is quite harsh on the skin, so back in the 1990s this water was created to help women in that part of the world cleanse their faces.
Micellar water contains no water, but is a liquid made of micelles–microscopic molecules that clump together and pull dirt and cosmetics from your face. Just squirt some onto a cotton pad and wipe. There’s no need to rinse afterward.
Women who have used it say it leaves the skin clean without feeling stripped, and it’s great at removing even water-proof makeup. It’s also a 3-in-1 product as it can replace your cleanser, makeup remover, and toner.
Best Micellar Water
So, what’s the best micellar water? While many of these cleansing waters are not 100 percent natural or organic, some of the cheaper and more popular brands like Garnier come close.
EWG rates some of the chemicals they contain as a low to moderate hazard. However, if you’re determined to use organic micellar water, check out these brands below. They are more expensive than the drugstore varieties, but not outrageously priced.
So, now that we’ve resolved the question of what is micellar water, you may be wondering who should use it? Someone with sensitive skin should do well with this product. It’s gentle and seems to calm irritation. Also, any regular makeup wearers that want a quick and easy way to cleanse and remove makeup should love this product.
If you’ve used micellar water, what’s your opinion? How did it work for you?
