Earthly Bodies & Heavenly Hair: Natural and Healthy Personal Care for Every Body
Many people see problems with their hair or skin and and don’t relate it to their nutrition or sensitivity to certain chemicals in the environment. They don’t realize that hair or skin changes are an indication of more severe problems developing on the horizon. Problems in our hair, skin, and nails are indicative of more serious problems in our overall health.

Common problems with hair can include thinning and baldness. Baldness happens more often in men than women, but it can and does happen to women as well. Both men and women can also have thinning hair, and hair that falls out regularly. While genetics plays some part, thinning hair in women can often mean an iodine deficiency.

Arame is one of the richest sources of iodine. Herbalists use arame to help reduce breast and uterine fibroids, and through its fat-soluble vitamins and phytohormones, to normalize menopausal symptoms. Arame promotes soft, wrinkle free skin, enhances glossy hair and prevents hair loss.

The beginning of the problems may be less noticeable in some cases. Having dull, lifeless looking hair for instance is a common first sign that something else may be wrong. Some people have hair that seems as if it never grows or grows very slowly, and this is also an indication of nutritional deficiencies or toxin overload in the body.

The TV commercials would have you believe you just need a different shampoo for these simple issues, but often this is not the case. Usually you need to start taking care of your body better – either in the form of boosting nutrition, or cleaning out toxins from your body that have accumulated to levels which are too high.

Common problems we see with the skin can vary widely too. Sometimes there are seemingly simple problems such as dryness and itching. Other times we may have severe acne flare ups, or problems with excessive white heads and blackheads on our faces. Sometimes our skin is too oily as well, or it starts getting patches of flaky skin on it. Rashes and goosebump like textures can also indicate potential skin problems and vitamin deficiencies.

Our fingernails and toenails are very reliable for letting us know when there may be underlying health and nutritional problems too. Again these issues are often seen as more beauty problems than health problems, but beauty is not usually the only issue.

If your nails split easily for instance, or break often, these can be signs that your body is lacking in essential vitamins and minerals. Other common nail problems involve having ridges and lines on the nails, being discolored particularly close to the cuticle, and having very thin nails which bend easily.

One of the best first steps you can take to start correcting these common problems with hair, nails and skin, is to simply start eating better. This process can take quite some time to correct all of the problems though, so a faster option is to take extra vitamins and minerals each day. And the best kind to take are herbal supplements.

Kelp for instance, is considered to be the very best herbal supplement to take for hair, skin and nail problems. All around herbal vitamins which also make drastic differences include Alfalfa or Parsley as well. Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish, fish oil or flaxseed oil supplements can also make wonderful differences in how healthy your hair, skin and nails are too.
