Natural Skin Care: Detox With Clay

This is a test.

Horse: Cart

(A) cable : bridge
(B) cast : injury
(C) fort : army
(D) clay: toxins

The answer, of course, is D! A horse pulls carts and clay pulls toxins. Nothing is better than clay for pulling debris through conjested skin than clay. It’s a key part of the facial.

Don’t consider a facial a treat. You deserve a facial at least once a week. Think of it as maintenance. If you’ve never had a facial, it’s a good idea to get a professional facial a few times just so you know how it’s done.

Steaming

Steaming is a crucial step. It brings impurities to the outer layers of the face so that they can leave your body. You want the toxins out of our body because this makes your skin clear.

You can steam your face by heating water on a stove. Pour it into a bowl and hold your head covered in a towel over the bowl. You can add herbs to the water such a chamomile. If you prefer, purchase a facial steamer and use it to steam your face.

The other benefit of steam is that it increases blood flow to the face so you get a rosy glow. Some people steam their face for 5 or 10 minutes every night before bed. If you can feel a zit forming beneath the skin, steaming is a good idea.

Clay Masks

Masks are the best complement to facial steaming, and clay masks are great for pulling toxins. After you steam your face, your pores are wide open. This is the perfect time to pull toxins from your pores. This is what clay masks are great at doing. If your skin is congested with acne, you can steam and mask 2-4 times a week.

Be aware that things may get worse before they get better. As you bring toxins to the surface of the skin, bacteria may spread to other areas of the face and cause breakouts. This is a short-term problem. As you repeat the process of steaming your skin followed by clay masks, you’ll see the overall clarity of your skin improve.

There are numerous kinds of clay. They’re all good for pulling toxins from the skin, but some are more versatile and can be used to make soaps as well. Others are gentle and good for sensitive skin. Still others are mineral-dense and lend themselves well to body wraps–

Bentonite clay is a combination of montmorillonite and volcanic ash. It is a highly absorbent clay that pulls oils and toxins from the skin and is one of the best clays for making clay poultices.

Dead Sea clay is rich in the minerals found at the bottom of the Dead Sea. Used alone or mixed with other clays, it is great for facials, body wraps, hair wraps, and soap.

French green clay is mostly montmorillonite and is therefore highly efficient at drawing oils and toxins from the skin. It is rich in important minerals and phyto-nutrients.

Green illite clay is efficient at drawing oils and toxins from the skin and is also often referred to as French green clay.

Sea clay is a kaolinite clay of a grayish green color. It has a high content of minerals and helps to draw oils while mineralizing the skin.
