Lice thrive on the human body, and anything that masks or alters the normal human smell will often make the lice leave. This is why lice don't live on dogs and cats: These animals do not have the human smell. You can work this to your advantage though, by using shampoos which have a heavy flower or perfume scent to them. This often drives the lice out of the head, plus prevents them from staying when the eggs hatch too.

Another way to alter the standard human smell is to simply eat some fresh garlic or onions. Eating garlic or onions in large amounts, or over several days, will cause your body and sweat to have a different smell. This will drive the lice, nits, and a few people away as well.

    Natural remedies for head lice….

  2. The ONLY safe way to get rid of head lice permanently is to use a totally natural alternative to the chemical preparations then use prevention methods such as hairspray and tea tree mixed with water in a spray bottle every day to ensure they never return.

You are right to want to stay away from chemical head lice treatments. Before you listen to anyone advising you to use a pesticide treatment please consider the following:

No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as ’safe’ as every insecticide is a poison.

Lindane for example is a known carcinogen and is now banned in 52 different countries. Yet it is still used in more than 6 million prescriptions in the US. Google ‘Jesse’s Story Head Lice’ for more. All lice killing pesticides are a poison and have the potential to cause serious damage, even if used as directed.

If a lice treatment does not work once it is not going to work twice, in fact the lice that live will breed into a whole new batch that are resistant to that chemical.

Natural remedies containing Neem render the lice unable to breed therefore making it impossible for them to build up a resistance.

My daughter came home at the end of this summer from day camp, and had a fairly full blown case of lice. Immediately, I went to the pharmacy & got some Nix, only to find out later that night that the pesticides in this stuff could be detremental to her health.

Well, from there we tried covering her head in olive oil at night, covering her head overnight with her swim team cap. Two days later, with not much of a change, I was picking through for hours with a nit comb, tweezers, and a magnifying glass. On the 3rd day, I called a friend (exhausted already by the lice) who suggested Neem Oil, which I quickly purchased at a whole health foods store. I put 20-30 drops into the olive oil, and did the oil treatments at night again for a few days.

What a difference that made! We also incorporated a Neem shampoo from the same store to wash her hair everyday. I cannot emphasize the need for picking the nits out, but combined with the Neem treatments, we knocked it out shy of 1 week.

Of course, it travelled over to my other daughter towards the end of the treatment with my other daughter, but we got a jump on it with her. I followed the same regime with her, and found that only a few days was necessary with her to completely rid our house of this. Start to finish, we were lice free in less than 2 weeks. I will say that it is a maddening process, but could have been worse if we had not found the Neem products. If you can’t find the products locally, get out on the web to find them - you won’t be sorry.

Have you ever tried LiceKiller? It has a phenominal success rate and its active ingredients are all natural. In fact, Neem is one of the essential oils used in the product. You could check it out at http://www.licekiller.com. The active ingredients are listed and the lice are killed in just 10 seconds. But just treating the head’s not enough - the environment should be treated too. Call the volunteers at http://www.headlicehotline.org and they’ll tell you how they eradicated lice & nits from their lives for good.
