Nail Salon As Man Cave?!

A recent experience at the nail salon has made me a little uncomfortable. Here's what happened. I was getting a manicure and this young guy came in. I thought he must be there to pick up his girlfriend, but he was there to get his nails done too. There was another guy there who was actually waiting on his girlfriend. The two of them struck up a conversation. Male bonding in the nail shop—so millennial. The guy getting his nails done didn't seem self conscious at all. The whole scenario seemed cute at first, but after some reflection it's got me worried.

My Dad's grooming kit consisted of Ivory soap, Old Spice aftershave, toothpaste, deodorant, and whatever lotion my mother stuck in the medicine chest. I think it's the same as what they issue to guests at Gitmo. When I try to get a mental image of my father going to a nail salon I just bust out laughing. I've seen him use a butter knife when he couldn't find a nail clipper.

Now I've had male friends who wouldn't be caught dead buying a skin serum, but have no problem using mine. No complaints on my part because one less set of rusty knuckles in the world is a good thing to paraphrase Martha Stewart. After giving it a little more thought, I'm worried. If this trend really gets big, will I have to vie for time to get my eyebrows done with some dude getting his back waxed?

The fringe predicts the future, and that's why I'm worried. Will the nail salon be the new man cave? Will I walk in to get my bi-weekly pedicure to find the game on the tube instead of Oprah? The occasional guy at the salon is cute, but I don't want to be the only woman waiting for a manicure. I'm just not ready to have my day spa turned into a man cave.

The best man-cave site I have come across has to be The Mantuary. Do check it out sometime.
