The Problem With Dimples
Dimples may have been cute on Shirley Temple’s cheeks, but the average adult doesn’t find them cute at all. Women, unfortunately, are much more likely to have cellulite than men. But thanks to a stroke of Divine Justice, skinny people have cellulite too. It’s not about being overweight, it’s about the way fat, muscle, and connective tissue are distributed in the skin.
Heredity plays a big role in determining who gets cellulite. The extent of skin thickness, gender, and the amount and distribution of body fat are all determined, in large part, by our genes. Although cellulite is more common in women, men can also be afflicted. Cellulite is an equal opportunity fat and occurs in people of all races. Although female hormones may play a role in the distribution of fat, cellulite cannot be treated with hormone therapy. Exercise isn’t helpful either.
Some people opt for liposuction which is pretty radical. There’s laser treatment which the Kardashian sisters prefer. Of course, most any spa will have a treatment for cellulite, but there are a few natural solutions around such as the herbal cellulite pill that often contains grape seed oil and ginkgo biloba which is supposed to have merit. Revitol makes an excellent natural serum for cellulite. Another natural method is to rub birch oil on the affected area.
By far the hottest new treatment for cellulite right now is coffee. Apparently, the caffeine in coffee makes cellulite do a disappearing act. We know that caffeine increases blood flow, which is a good thing in topical treatments. Since caffeine is a vasorestrictor — tightens and shrinks blood vessels — using coffee has the added effect of reducing the appearance of varicose veins.
If you want to use coffee on your cottage cheese cellulite, there’s two ways you can go about it. Mix fresh coffee grounds and turbinado sugar for a scrub, or if you prefer, add some olive oil to the grounds and apply to the affected area. Cover in plastic wrap for a few minutes and shower off.
